Administrative Regulations on Internet Information Search Services entered into force on 1 Aug. 2016.

There are 13 articles in total. The Regulations aim to regulate activities that provide Internet information search services within the territory of China. Key points of the Regulations are as follows:

  1. The Cyberspace Administration of China and its local government counterparts are the regulatory authorities in this field.

  2. Providers of Internet information search services (“service providers”) shall obtain relevant qualifications as required by laws and administrative regulations.

  3. Service providers shall not provide information contents prohibited by laws and administrative regulations.

  4. Where service providers offer paid search services, they shall significantly distinguish the natural search results from paid search information, and notably mark paid search information one by one.
