The Frontier Health and Quarantine Law was promulgated in 1986 and amended in 2007, 2009 and 2018 respectively. The latest revision entered into force on April 27, 2018.

There are 27 articles in total.

The key points are as follows:

1.This Law is formulated in order to prevent infectious diseases from spreading into or out of the country, to carry out frontier health and quarantine inspection and to protect human health.

2.Frontier health and quarantine offices shall be set up at international seaports, airports and ports of entry at land frontiers and boundary rivers of the People’s Republic of China. These offices shall carry out the quarantining and monitoring of infectious diseases, and health inspection in accordance with the provisions of this Law.

3.Infectious diseases means quarantinable diseases or infectious diseases which are subject to monitoring. Quarantinable diseases shall mean plague, cholera, yellow fever and other infectious diseases as determined and announced by the State Council. Infectious diseases subject to monitoring shall be determined and announced by the health administrative department of the State Council.
