The Law on Prevention and Control of Desertification of China was promulgated in 2001 and amended in 2018 respectively. The latest revision entered into force on October 26, 2018.

There are 47 articles in total.

The key points are as follows:

1.This Law was formulated in order to prevent land desertification, to transform desertified land, to protect the safety of environment and to promote the sustainable development of economy and society.

2.he administrative department in charge of forestry and grassland of the State Council shall be responsible for the organization, coordination and direction of the desert prevention and transformation of the whole country.

3.The units and individuals using land shall bear the obligation to prevent that land from desertification. The units and individuals using the land that has already been desertified shall bear the obligation to transform that desertified land.
