The People’s Armed Police Law was promulgated in 2009, and amended in 2020 respectively. The latest revision entered into force on June 21, 2020.

There are 51 articles in total.

The key points are as follows:

1.The people’s armed police force (Article “PAPF”) is an important part of the armed forces of the People’s Republic of China, and shall be under centralized and unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee and the Central Military Commission. (Article 2)

2.The PAPF shall adhere to the absolute leadership of the CPC, implement Xi Jinping’s thinking on strengthening the military. (Article 3)

3.The PAPF shall perform tasks such as guard duty, handling of social security emergencies, prevention and handling of terrorist activities, maritime right safeguarding and law enforcement, emergency rescue, and defensive operations, as well as other tasks assigned by the Central Military Commission. (Article 4)

4.The PAPF shall be composed of internal security forces, mobile forces, maritime police forces, academies, and research institutions, among others.(Article 5)
