On 2 Sept. 2022, the Standing Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress adopted the newly revised Law on Quality and Safety of Agricultural Products (农产品质量安全法), which will come into effect on 1 Jan. 2023.

The Quality and Safety of Agricultural Products Law was promulgated in 2006 and slightly amended in 2018. This time, it was revised thoroughly, with the following key points added:

Farmers shall assume responsibility for the quality and safety of agricultural products, and operators in the process of procurement, storage and transportation shall conduct inspections of their products. Operators who sell agricultural products on e-commerce platforms shall assume responsibility for the quality and safety of their products. China will adopt traceability management of the quality and safety of agricultural products.
