Official English Version of China’s Law on Foreign State Immunity Published

In September 2023, the English version of the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Foreign State Immunity was published online by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The full text is available HERE.

The PRC Law on Foreign State Immunity was on Foreign State Immunity was adopted at the Fifth Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Fourteenth National People’s Congress on September 1, 2023.

The enactment of this law marks a landmark change in China's stance on state immunity, from the previous absolute immunity to the current restrictive immunity.
