As of December 31, 2020, there are more than 522,000 lawyers in China.
China has more than 34,000 law firms. Among them, there are more than 20,600 partnerships, accounting for 60.59%; more than 870 state-owned firms, accounting for 2.56%; more than 9,400 solo practice law firms, accounting for 27.65%.
In addition, China has 217 representative offices of foreign law firms.
In terms of lawyers’ age, there are more than 99,800 lawyers under 30 years old (inclusive), accounting for 19.16%; more than 326,100 lawyers between 30 and 50 years old (inclusive), accounting for 62.61%; lawyers between 50 and 65 years old (inclusive) There are more than 84,400 people, accounting for 16.20%; there are more than 10,600 lawyers over 65, accounting for 2.03%.
There are 8,588 lawyers who have received education and degrees abroad, accounting for 1.65%.
